MedAssist, Incorporated, a Firstsource Company, was founded in Louisville, Kentucky in 1989 by Michael A. Shea. The company was established to meet a growing hospital need to help patients through the process of applying for government medical assistance. The leadership of MedAssist has remained firmly in the hands of Mr. Shea, CEO of North America and President, Healthcare.

Today, MedAssist has grown to service over 1,000 healthcare providers nationally and has become a substantial leader in healthcare revenue cycle management. MedAssist service groups are locally staffed by personnel familiar with statewide regulations. These operations are supported by regional offices, a strong national infrastructure and the latest technology. MedAssist currently has 37 offices and approximately 4,500 employees .

In May 2003, MedAssist gained an investment from RoundTable HealthCare Partners, an operating-oriented private equity firm solely focused on the healthcare industry.
